The world of Accident Benefits is a complicated, highly regulated section of the Ontario Automobile Policy. The Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule (SABS) is a regulation under the Insurance Act of Ontario that details the benefits available to those injured in an accident, as well as the procedures for accessing and handling accident benefit claims. This course is a high-level overview of the SABS and is designed for those who do not work directly in Accident Benefits. We will review the benefits available for those injured in accidents and discuss some claims handling considerations. Having a better understanding of the SABS will help any insurance professional support the policyholders, agents, brokers and others involved in the claims process, and help prepare for the Auto Reform taking effect July 1, 2026.
The course contains written material, videos, and activities. While the activities are not graded, they are a valuable way to check your understanding. You will need approximately an hour and a half to two hours complete the entire course. You do not need to complete the course in one sitting. You can leave the course and return to it at any time. Your progress will be saved. You must finish all sections to get your certificate of completion.
