Adjuster’s Responsibility for Privacy

As we just saw, adjusters must be aware of the legislation and regulations related to aspects of their job. Among the legislation that adjusters must be aware of is the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). This is a piece of legislation that recognizes and protects the privacy of individuals.

Adjusters must get a policyholder’s consent in order to collect, use, and disclose personal information for the purposes of:

• Reviewing and confirming details on an application for insurance
• Evaluating claims
• Detecting and preventing fraud
