Independent and public adjusters must be licensed. Most staff adjusters also require licensing, although those in Nova Scotia and Ontario do not. In many provinces, a probationary license is given to independent and public adjusters and licensing may be tied to completion of a certain number of Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) courses. The full license is then granted after they complete more CIP courses and a written or oral examination. Each province’s adjusting license requirements will differ.
